This is the title of session 6 to our Sunday School material, The Gospel Project. (Side note: this material is so rich with biblical truth.) We are underlining how our God is, in fact, holy, just and jealous- all rightly so. My heart rejoicing in knowing that God is perfection, the fountain of everything right, and adamant about his people and their affections.
My heart races first to His holiness and my lack of. This morning however, it is not a beat-myself-down-down kind of contemplation, but rather, JOY in knowing Romans 5:8, “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” I must continue to go to this especially when it is so easy to slip into pity when looking at my defaults back into sin. It is a divine thing that the Perfect would come in the flesh, live a blameless life, and die on the Cross for an enemy of the Cross (Philippians 3:18), so that we may inherit His kingdom and stand before the Father wearing righteousness not our own, but the most costly of gifts. Hallelujah! I’m glad to be a sinner straining for holiness only with confidence in knowing that my Holy, Holy, Holy God is for me and for His Name. That is rich. That is good news, the very nourishment my soul needs.
