January Joy Dare: A Gift in Sky, Water, Memory

Matthew 25-27

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?  And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?”

I love watching for birds because it calls me to stop the busyness and simply be. Observe something else, something so elegant and beautiful, outside of my day’s affairs. They also draw my mind to this passage. I see birds as such a gift to remind me on a daily basis of my value in Christ. How tenderly God supplies their needs, yet here I am worrying about today and tomorrow? There’s something wrong with that, especially when Someone so unfathomably worthy of all eternal praise was sent to die for sinners and qualify me to stand before God righteous. I think everything in all creation echoes the gospel. Birds are yet another one of those things that I intend to notice more, as they are not quite so insignificant after all. Reminders. We need reminders on this earth. Tidbits keeping our eyes on the race instead of lagging, nourishing our souls with truth such as our value in Jesus Christ. What a gift that is.

A cardinal in the bird bath beside our house, clothed in all of its red glories whispering truth. Provision indeed. The sky as its playground and purposed water stations for drink provided by a wondrous Creator.

Residing in sky, water, [Lord store this in my] memory.

Unfortunately, capturing birds in a picture has never been my forte. I’ve previously mentioned my personality- running around, can always find something to be doing, you get the picture- and that amount of patience/time has yet to grace my days. Maybe the spring and hours outside playing will give me more opportunities! Instead I’ve included a few snapshots of birds that are in my life as well, just in a static kind of way.
